Health Insurance Underwriting
All health insurance applications with very few exceptions are subject to medical underwriting. Most health insurance applications do get approved and at the rates we quote, however this is not guaranteed or is always the case. Health Insurance applications in most states can be accepted at a preferred rate (the rate we quote) or a higher rate base on your medical history, and other applicable factors. In some states pre existing medical conditions may also be excluded from your policy for a period of time (this can range from one year to permanent), if such condition is determined to be a major cost or risk factor. Excluded specific medical conditions is not something all health insurance carriers do, and in some states this is not permitted. In virtually all states you can be declined for health insurance if you are considered high risk. Common high risk would include currently pregnant, diabetic, heart problems, cancer problems, or just a combination of too many issues or prescriptions. Yes you can be declined for health insurance in the vast majority of states. Each insurance carrier generally can set their own guidelines for enrollment - so while you may be declined from one company, there very well might be another company we can place you with (varies based on the extent of your conditions).
If you are declined for health insurance, you need to call us as we may be able to place you elsewhere. Most states have a HIGH RISK POOL or HIPAA plans for those who are declined on the individual health insurance market. There are a wide variety of variations and qualifications you need to speak to a licensed agent or contact your state department of insurance for high risk options.
